It is more versatile than the star, because you can use a combination of colours as well as adding centres and French knots on the outer edge. This helps in picking up colours in the fabric.
A number of these fabrics come from my own dresses over the last 40 years but family members will also recognise a couple of their past dresses.

Thanks, Monica. The plan is to embroider the centres of any coloured 'flowers' that have a plain fabric centre (which is most of them). I am not embroidering any of the black rows. I wanted a way to incorporate embroidery and vary the work involved.
the more I see of everyone`s hexies the more I love them and these are no exception, I think your centre will be appearing on my crazy blocks soon
